Rehren Nov 16th 1944

Dear Heinrich !

Tonight I will write to you again, But we are so worried because we have not heard from you for so long. Your last letter was from Aug 17th and that is 4 months ago now. So you can imagine how anxious we are to hear from you. Maybe you can not write because of circumstances , and the other 4 from Rehren, who are in Romania, have not written either. But their letters were not returned like mine, I just wrote to Hélters in Bückeburg too, they asked me whether we had heard from you. Och Dear Boy, you can not imagine what we going through here, and we think how bad it is for you. As we have heard from other units, no one has heard from Romania. There are quite a few there from villages around here. I wonder whether you get our mail, some people say that you are surrounded by the enemy others say that you are all been taken Prisoner, we just wondering. Yesterday a week ago the house of Struckmeiers burned down, it was fired upon by fighter bombers who came very low, just above the roofs, the Truck from the Creamery, that collects the milk from the farms , was destroyed. Butcher Bredemeier was hit in the leg, he is in hospital now. On Tuesday Rehren Rodemberg and Elster received a lot of refugees , most came from Münster in Westfalia, it was said it is totally destroyed. We took a refugee on, an older 67 year Salesman who had been all over the world before the war, he speaks several languages Father likes him, he sleeps in Grandma’s room the girl that looks after the day care Children we let her sleep upstairs in Minnas room. So all in all some fine people we have , in his opinion he thinks the war soon will be over. But we have been thinking that same-for years now and nothing has come of it but one day it has to end. There are so many people running around in the Village, all refugees and I Opa Hahnen Room a Mother and Child live. Lets hope that our houses will be spared the burning. Struckmeier last the complete harvest in the fire, but Laufendar saved his. There is not much news from here, Rumberg is waiting too for a message from Fritz, he was in Gallert in Romania in Hospital. I wrote that in my last letter but I don’t know whether you had that. Opa keeps on praying for you too, my only ray is looking at your photo and then I thing, “ My Boy, are you still alive?” So my dear Heinrich, Father will write a few lines too, so I wish you all the best and greetings from your

Mother.

Dear Heinrich, We have not heard from you for such a long time, are you unable to write? We just hope that you still get our letters so far, nobody wrote from Romania. Dear Heinrich, how life is here Mother has told you, so we wish you all the best, that you are still alive, and that we hear from you soon. Lets hope you are not a prisoner. You can imagine how worried we are. Greetings from your Father, Mother and Grand Dad.
