In the East July 31° 1944

Dear Parents.

Sending you greetings from here. I hope all is well at home. We moved positions and are at present further north. We pushed the Russian attack back but he fires from all corners at us. We have no time to write anymore, and mail call is very rare. We look like Blacks, we have not had a wash for several weeks, tell all those at home that I can not write at present. Let us hope the war is ending soon

Greetings to all of you

Your Werner.
