O.U. May 18th 1941 Mothers day

Don’t forget the black out.

My Dearest !

Earlier today I mailed a parcel with different items, recycling stuff, dirty washing, Concnac, Lemons, Candy, and other things anda letter is enclosed, a real Mothers Letter. I also just drank my coffee but had no Mothers Cake and I am alone in the office here. On the Radio the Music program is on, they play “God bless you, with you it would be wonderful”. Ahh well, this time next year it will certainly be different. I play music too here now, Jelling has acquired a real Accordion from somewhere with white piano keys and 80 black Base buttons. When it was delivered from Paris, he was not in the office, but Muller , who had brought the monstrosity inside and I unpacked it, and I played 2 % tunes Naturally we had a good time, p layd and Müller was singing and whistling and we tried the song “ Can you hear my secret calling”, he called his relative who is in Berlin at the telephone exchange and told me to play the song over the phone because it was her favorite song. We obviously had great fun, . But now I must thank you a 1000 times for the letters from May 13th and 15th that arrived here today with a card from Mrs Dietmayer, but Elli, I am amazed, you are clambering up apple trees to sit down and read? If you had fallen down, you could have badly hurt your self. With Rudolf Hess , yes, it’s a silly thing, he thought he could be the holy Messiah and bring salvation to the whole world . Did you read the

Newspaper reports? I enclose them in the parcel for you. The story is true, via sources I have heard a few more detailed things, but the story is already old, and has been put in the desk for now. The explanation to the press was genial and the Englash can turn the story as they might want to, but Hess was crazy and that took the wind out of the English Sails. Now you are having another bout of the illness, a : Hexenschuss” ( Hernia ) k\lets hope it is all over by now, but please , be carefu, do not overwork yourself. Have you finished the garden now? I got plenty of eggs now, Saatz brought me another 20 recently I have one every day. I suppose you and Ernstchen are having 1 or 2 weeks vacation before my vacation to Tenglin. On my way there we can meet up on a Sunday in any town. If we do that, I delay my trip to Tenglin. We can meet up somewhere and then take a trip for 2 or 3 days to Klein Prenzau. And see Grand dad who has a house help now. If we go to Hamburg, we only have 1 day to see each other. Maybe the rest of the time we go to Bad Pyrmont as I have to see the Dr in hosopital because of my inflammation on my toes. I heard that several Bombs had fallen in Husum , the address there we shall keep for the time when peace is back. As of Traute, that’s not very nice but send her Greetings if you write to her. Now you wanted to know what is in the box from Vietmanter? I think 20 bottles of Champaign , we took 2 out from 22 so there are 20 left. Then there are 9 bottles of Cognac , or did we take any out? Just keep them for Whitsun for now. Leave the others in the box I will close now I just got a letter from Rött and Vieten, and I look for my tobacco tin now. Heartfelt Mothersday Greetings and Kisses from your Papi.
