Dear Vati

Thank you for the letter from July 9th , I will write to you so you do not think, I that I don’t want to know you. I often do not know what to write about, the Flies and Mosquitoes stinging me, I could go mad. When I came from school this morning, it was raining and today we were suppose to bring in the wagon load of Barley. I was soaked to the skin, Dear Vati, you want to know where we get the cherries from? Grandma brought 10 pounds so we canned 1 % cans, that is all the cherries we have for this year. But maybe Grandma will give us hers. It would be more cleverer if the war would be over, so I send you Greetings and hope to see you again soon.

Your Hellmut.
