Feb 26th 1943

Dear Erich and Lina.

Thank you for the card from Feb 14th that you wrote from the Warthegau. I already had heard that Werner was called up for Labor Service, but I had no address to write to him. I only had one letter so far from Lotte, As I can see from the letter, Artur is back on the journey to the East. So now both of your sons are in the East, Steutenmichel must be that old Castle near Schneidemühl , we both remember it from 1915-16 and I am glad to hear that he likes it. But lets hope that the war is ending soon, so Werner be home before the next winter arrives. From myself I can tell you that I am ok, and hope the same from you. The weather is changeable but no colds here, much different from last year and we already have spring weather here. That, of course, means an extra enemy to fight , the mud and mire and water and every day we have 50-70 buckets of it to clear from our bunker. All we do is standing guard in water and clear water from the bunker. But that time will pass too, makes less war to fight. We all have about a mouth full of it all here and want to end it. In the next few days I am due for a Sgt training, I don’t like it much, but orders are orders . That is all I have to say.

Greetings from here Artur
