East, Feb 2™ 1943

Dear Erich, Werner and Lina!

First I am sending you greetings from the East. Since yesterday I am back with the Company. The old comrades have all gone, death or wounded , only the Sgt is left. Since my return from hospital I don’t have to do outside guard. No standing for a while, but sitting down is ok. I do chop a bit firewood in day time, I have managed now with the Sgt , that he puts me in for an Iron Cross award. I am well enough now but have a slight cold but that will go in time. The snow is high, we have storms too, and we in the area of Lebel at the central front. How is Artur, has he had his furlough yet? Is he still in Jena ? I will close for now and hope that all is well at home. It is 3.30 PM now Greetings to all.

Artur.
