Dear Parents.

Greetings from here, I hope all is well at home but not much good news from here. I am sick since yesterday, with Fever, it is a bit better today, but we are still in the front line. But I am in a bunker, the Sgt Major treats me ok,, like I was at home. He made tea for me, with real Schnapps in it. The fever has gone down today, the I had 2 blankets as a cover to sweat it out. My Sgt Major, who leads the platoon, is ok, he does not send me out on Patrol. Thank you for the letter and the birthday card. I hope you can send a 2 Ib parcel soon, I like anything, the food is bad now here. The Company is unable to slaughter any cattle there is nothing about. My Comrade was taken away to another Regiment, I don’t know why, but I can not worry about it, I hope I will be home for my next birthday, I would have loved some fruit but there is none available anywhere around here. Well, all I can say it’s a pity I am not at home today. I am well here so I send you greetings

Your Werner.
