Dear Parents.

Last night with great joy I received your parcel and I thank you very much for it. Also thanking you for the Birthday Congratulations. It is now 2.15 AM , my Sgt Major just came and congratulated me on my birthday. I was surprised by the parcel because you had not mentioned anything about it in a previous letter. I can also tell you that I am well and back in good health. I hope the same from you. If you want to send anything again, I will be pleased, our winter rations have started and they are bad and never enough. Maybe some Ham and sausages? But only if you have enough for yourself. I don’t want you to go hungry. Also an apple you could send. How far are you with the potatoes? Have the school children come to help? Is there a good crop? I hope your weather is better than ours so you get it done and over with. What is the Matter with Lottchen and Grandma, I have not heard from them for a long while. It is raining now again , and stormy too. Can you get me the address from Gerhard Schwibs? I hope all is well at home, and lets hope for a reunion at home soon.

Your beloved Werner. Can you get me a Cigarette lighter, no matter what kind, as long as it works.
