Dear Parents and Grandma !

Meanwhile I got a letter from you that was mailed on the 17% and in the letter you told me that the drainage connection has been done. Amazing that they could do that in such a short time. I suppose the basement is dry now and no more pumping out. I am glad that you had such good neighbors to help you along. I suppose Zuttermeister was the Foreman and kept them going. It must have been hard work to dig a length of trench that far but everyone is happy that the job is well done. Now you can start on the flower garden, I would have loved to be present in that job . Dear Granddad , keep on feeding them horses if you save on oats, you have to bring them out in the field to graze. Let me know what is going on but stay well, Yesterday and Today we had good weather , I wonder what will happen now in the war? The

situation here is highly suspicious , well, whatever will happen has to come , sorry I can not write more now. The Power went off and the lights went out.

Greetings Heinrich.

The 117" Art Regt was for training in Bergen-Hohne on the Artillery Range before going to Poland in May 1941 in

preparation for the attack on Russia, yes he was suspicious , because on June 22nd Russia was attacked and the war in the east started.
