In the East Dec 23rd 1941

Dear Parents and Sisters.

Thank you very much for the parcel and the 2 letters that came yesterday. The parcel had the knee warmers in them, and 2 woolen cloths. I shall try it out tonight. Last night was another terrible night with a raging Blizzard, One could see nothing outside in the snow. So you mailed the candles, yes I can do with them, also a flash light battery. Gary gave me for Christmas a note book with pen and calendar but it is far to big to carry around. I had no other parcels so far, but tomorrow is Christmas Eve so we anticipating a lot of mail. When I am on guard in the trench tomorrow, I will think of you, when you under the tree with coffee and cake. My Comrade Popp has been send to another part of the front, as far as I know, his father has recovered from the operation. I have send money to you did you get it. My salary a month is 150 Marks, every ten days we get 25 Marks that makes 75 Marks a month. I will save some and you ask Ppa what I shall do with it. We don’t know what the future is with our money. I mailed a parcel yesterday with things I don’t need, hope all will arrive home. Looking forward to a good piece of Christmas Cake and have a good Christmas. Greetings to you all.
