In the East January 20th 1942

Dear Parents and Sisters,

Yesterday after a long delay, I got ,ail from you. We had a little problem with mail and delivery was stopped for a while because of transport problems. Ahh well, the main thing is that the letters, the parcels with cake and other things are coming again. But the 2 Lb parcel will probably not come yet, the 2lb parcel with the Christmas cake I got a long while ago. Here it has gone cold again , many degrees below zero, howis our Georg, is he better now? Then you wanted to know what boots I wear, well, mine are not to bad, they let no water in, but, of course, if the wet conditions stay to long, the best boot will let water in. You have to figure out now how to get on with the little girl at home. How is Walter, is back at work? Looking forward the end of the war.

Your Rudolf.
