Dear Parents and Sister!

A thousand thanks for your nice letters that had come yesterday, 2 parcels with pepper cake and one came with smoked ham. So including the earlier letters , all has arrived here. I too have mailed a parcel to you with the underwear, and the knee warmers that I don’t need here now. Also I included a few cork stoppers from bottles. Please wash my underwear soon, it is infested with lice and requires hunting it down everyday here. You also got the 100 Marks I mailed, it seems that is all that is on the way, Dear Mama, take the Cigarettes if you can, you can always get something else for them. I will also send more cigarettes and tobacco. I think Georg is not treating you very nice if he gives you only a few eggs with all the chickens he has, I bet he will not try it with his parents. Best thing would be if you get a few chickens too. About my feet and hands don’t worry, the frost bites are gone now. Mama you think there will be a miracle soon here on the front, if you had seen the fighting we endured so far, you would not believe in miracles, only one thing counts here, victory for us, but I think the worst in Russia is over, there will be peace soon here, and we hope to get out of this terrible country, the weather is sunny but cold, the wind is drying the mud now , in 2 weeks we will choke in dust again. That is all for now until we see each other gain

Greetings from you all Rudolf.

Dear Mama. Can you get me some elastic to hold my shirt sleeves you.
