Dear Parents and Margarete,
This morning I have a few hours free to send you a letter, because in the near future there will not be an opportunity to that. Tonight we are moving out in a direction we do not know yet, and if we lucky, we will have found a place to stay at Christmas. So if you do not get any mail in the next few weeks, blame it on special circumstances. I do wish you a very merry Christmas and a big roast on the table, I hope there will not be any air raids over the days. I suppose for us it will be a much different Christmas considering the circumstances. I cant tell you much about me, I am well. I hope that you are OK, and as soon as we are in a Position, I will write again. Stay well and in good health, lets hope it is the last Christmas in this war. That’s my only Christmas wish.
Greetings to All, your Erich.

Panzer Grenadier Regt 394 was a Regiment attached to the 3rd Panzer Division and fought most of the war in the northern sector , Leningrad-Wolchow. In late 1944 it was part of the Narew defenses in Estonia. In January 1945 it was deployed in Hungary, and retreated from there to the Steiermark around Styr, where it capitulated to the Russians in May 1945.
