Dear Rosemarie!
I know you have been waiting a long time to hear from me but the reason came about because of my transfer. Your 2 letters I got and I thank you very much. I am glad that you are back in your beloved Koltfeld and back to the Gils School there. Here in the Navy it is different, we too are send from school to another but always we learn different subjects. I am in Westgender no w but further away from Western Germany and Lippe. It was me who was so unlucky to get here, now we still had no time to see each other, it seems we are both unlucky.
I suppose your neighbors are very exited now, the Rhineland suppose to be evacuated, but personally, don’t believe it, the British and Americans will not get into Germany, I do get angry when I listen to the Wehrmacht Report. Here we are a lot of sailors, I am a Cadet and we have no chance to go out to sea. If only school time was done with now, it is all quiet here now, but we are 150 Kilometers from the eastern front. But here I am, waiting and more waiting, but the next 3 months will pass too. My only hope is the we here are used for harvesting but the harvest will be over in 3 months time. Maybe it be the potato harvest. They can not use us on the eastern front, well, maybe they will find a job for us,
Greetings to you from your Ernst.
