Dear Parents and Granddad.

Today I got a few parcels and the letter from Aug 18th and that took a long time I will answer now the letter. Dear Parents, we are having a very hard time again here, in Battle. Enemy Bombers and artillery fire is smothering our positions you can not imagine how hard the battle is fought here. Slowly we lose our nerves nobody knopws how deep we have to dig ourselves in the ground is shaking from the explosions, and all we can do is put our trust in God the Almighty . That is what keeps us going. Please pray so we will get out of here. You wrote that the first rye was hauled from the field on Aug 18th I bet he was high in growth. I know you doing things right at home, I wish I could be there with you for a while and help. Dear Mother, do not send me dry bread but Cookies or cake is ok. Give my Greetings to Heinz Bade if he is home now. Father is not happy because he has no Cigars, I get 2 Cigars and 6 Cigarettes each day and would love to send you those if I could leave this Hell here , 1 am well and send Greetings ,

Heinrich.
