Dear beloved Parents !
Faster than I thought possible I ended up here. I am sitting in Bunker, and have one hour rest. Tonight we have to dig a
connecting trench and only 200 meters from us is the Russian line. All us from the Artillery are now subordinate to the Infantry but we havea Artillery Officer in Command . We were told that we will stay only 14 days to get to know the job of the Infantry. After that we suppose to be going to a front reserve Battery. But what ever will happen will be decided by the Russians . Let us hope that this part of the front will stay quiet. Apart from the ever present Russian Sharpshooters, things are quiet here . At night all Machine guns fire continuously to avoid surprises. In front of us is a swamp with a creek, A few days ago the Russians attacked in bad weather but got stuck in the swamp with his Panzers. Looking at the map, we are just north of Kishinew. We have no FP # so I just use the FEB number maybe we get back to our Regt soon, your letters will be forwarded to the new FP #. We don’t know how long we have to wander from A to B and back B to A and Z but I am well anyway and I hope you too. Dear Parents, yes, keep on praying for me. And that wee will see the end of the war.
Greetings from your Heinrich.
