Dnjster Front August 6th 1944

Dear All back home !

Today is Sunday and just as I started to write, the mail carrier came with 2 parcels and a letter. Thank you very much, and so glad to hear from home again. Also glad to hear that you are well same as me. I am now 3 days at the front again, but we in the 2™ line , a few 100 meters behind the first. It seems, according to the news, the Russians are not planning a large attack here.

1 it pleases him, he can attack anywhere along the long front . For us it well be a happy time if leaves the southern front in peace for a change. Sunday here is like any other day the Machine Guns rattling, all day and if every bullet would be hit, nobody would be alive now. I would love to be home now and get the rye in from the field. And here we do nothing. Let us hope that next year peace will reign amongst the nations. . But maybe now the Turks will decear war on us too, and what if the Russians enter Germany? Let us believe in our own strength now.

Have you repainted the kitchen yet? How many bushels you reckon you will get into the barn this year? My thoughts are with you all the time and so I will close now and send heartfelt

Greetings Heinrich.
