Dear Parents and Grand Dad !
Yesterday I wrote a letter from the front line and today I am 15 Kilometers behind the front. Orders come ver fast here and when they come, we march, but we as Artillery were told we get further training but we don’t mind, it is better to be behind the lines then get a bullet into you brain if you stick the head out of the trench. I just now had a letter from you, and I am glad that you are all well. Same as me by the way. I hope you have plenty of hay in the barn for the winter. When I come home next time, I want to see the little Horse grown up, and our little new Dog needs a shelter too. The Wine that you are making we shall when I get home one day. And tell Melus, with all the plums we have this year, he ought to make some Quetsch (Plum Schnapps) As I write now it is very hot here, I hope to get this letter done. Assume everyone is busy getting the grain in, and we hope that by the fall, this war is over but before that happens , our new “ Wonder Weapons” got to be deployed. Lets hope as long there is hope, for now all the best.
