Dear Parents and Sister.

Today a lot of mail came for me. 3 letters and parcels with cookies and cake, newspapers and your Air mail letter from June 26th that Rädisch Hans was killed. That is very sad, he had just returned to his unit from furlough, and entered a big battle on his return. He had been a Sgt and wanted to serve in a rear area he once wrote me. Was he with the Infantry? Well, that is a terrible war we fighting, but in the south our Armies go forward, it also started on the central front, Sevastopol has finally fallen too, and in Africa we are also on the advance towards Cairo. I thing the final victory will come this year, if not, it will never end. Dear Mama, yes you are worried about the Americans coming, but I am confident that if they land somewhere in Europe, it wont be easy for them. They are only good with their Air Force, that looks different.

Yesterday I also got the parcel with the candy and the watch, a small parcel fro m Walter and one from Manfred came too. I think Max Baum does not want to be a Sgt, if he is Sgt, he can not be valet at the same time. On Monday we had some new recruits, time will tell if they good enough for us. One is from Oberfrohna and his name is Uhlemann his family lives in the Wolkenburger str. His wife is a nee Winter and used to live on the hill at Turgens. I hope I can get furlough, have not been home for 2 years now, so All the very best and Greetings.

Rudolf.
