Dear Brother,
Took me 11 days to get here and from Lemberg to Snamika was a terrible journey. It was 35 degree below C , in Vastow I had to change trains and was put into a cattle car. 16 hours I stood there, there was no room to sit down, I thought my feet would freeze solid. By the time we got to
Nikolajew the weather had gotten a bid warmer, and now there is no snow here but it rains. The Company I belonged to before my furlough, had left here, and pulled forward. To top it all, we had to leave all our Christmas parcels behind. Your parcel is with it so my calender note book is lost too. I don’t have to look for the old Company, we shall be going to another, we have good rations now, I will close now wishing you all the very best.
Your Brother Heinrich.
