Sept. 7th 1944

Dear Parents and Margarete.

Today I answer your last letter, and I was so glad to hear from you, the happenings on all the fronts lately do not give much encouragement and joy. Wherever we look in Europe, our so called friends have deserted us. The whole situation is worrisome too, the advance of the Russians in Romania , Bulgaria, the loss of the Romanian Oilfield, now the Russian knocking on the doors of Hungary. Then the bad situation on the western Front, it seems that our Atlantic Wall was not strong enough to hold off the might of the Allies. These are only a few points of the situation. Let us hope that we can break up the massive attack of all our enemies and above all we MUST believe in our final victory. There will be, and I believe in it, a few surprises ready soon for our enemies. There for, hold your head high, don’t despair.

I hope Mama is back to her normal self, I am glad to hear that in Rabenstein all is well,

Stay well and in good health.

Your Erich

Greetings to All.
