My dear Parents !

Thank you for all the parcels and long letters I had from you and yesterday the Pullover and the socks came , then in the big parcel was bacon, ham, and 3 boxes of cookies. I also had finally the 3 cans of sausage . I can not write much in the cold here outside, we live like gypsis but at least they have a caravan with an oven. For 2 weeks now we are infested with lice , since it was getting to cold to sleep in tents and stay in Russian sod huts. Dear Parents, I am happy to read your long letters and of the work that you are doing . I can not write often and I have not much rest . The Gunners were all promoted to Pvt 1 Class except the ammunition drivers. That is not fair especially in our Battery , ah well, it does not matter as long as I can get out of this country soon. Just keep on sending me some food, that’s the only thing I need from you now. I am happy and so can you, that at least I spend my younger years with you. I am ok, and I hope the same from you. We are Army Reserve and well behind the front, and we under General von Reichenaus 6th Army. Next week I will send 100 Marks to you and save it for me so I have some Money when I come to Germany. I have no Cigarettes to send you, I smoke more now than before. It was sad news to hear that Zuttemeister was killed please keep on writing all the news from home. I have not met anyone from home we know, yet. The Infantry are mostly Bavarians ,\. Our nest Target is Poltawa and then Charkov. For now many Greetings

Heinrich.
