Dear Parents and Grand Dad!
Its evening and I will write a few lines again, we are in a Russian hut, 6 men sitting around a table and writing home. it is 8 PM now and we lit a Oil Lamp . The woman of the house just made us a big pot of boiled potatoes and they are good when you hungry like we were. But we need a lot to eat really , more than I use to ate at home. Looking after the horses is my job but I am able to get a bit of food for us on the side at times, but on the forward advance, there is not much to be gathered and that is why I have to repeat myself in each letter to you. Send food as often as you can, Frying Fats, Butter, Cooked Ham, and fat is what we need here . There is no danger of Butter and Fat melting in the parcels, the weather has turned pretty cold now . If you have, send me a comb and a pocket knife as I need one urgently. I am well apart from Hunger.
Heil to you all Heinrich.
