Dear Parents and Grand dad !

I had no mail nor parcels now for quite a while but I will write to you nevertheless . At this moment we are to the south of Charkov and whether we stay here for a while nobody seems to know. I am in a Russian hut, and a pot with potatoes is boiling on the fire. There are 6 of us in this room and we are all hungry. I am well, but don’t forget to send me food parcels, . Our leadership is worried about the loss of so many horses , they don’t get enough oats to eat and trucks are no good in this weather they slide from the right road ditch into the left ditch. The soil is mostly wet clay very slippery. Last week I helped to trash some oats and that was a good job as I like it. How far are you with the beet harvest? Dear Grand Dad, you stay well and look after our horses, and don’t forget that in 8 weeks is Christmas and so I already have

Christmas wishes. Mail already takes 4 weeks from home to us, but the things I need is food , a cheap pocket watch, Shaving Brush, Bracelets, a Butter tin, and maybe some jelly. Lets hope that you can send larger parcels soon. One thing is for certain, we shall stay in Russia for the winter just you keep on praying that one day I am leaving this country. The lice are a plague here, and tey keep us awake. Right now I don’t know what to write so I close sending Greetings

Your Heinrich
