Dear All at Home !

A few lines to you now and in a few days from now we are back at the front again. As of today we suppose to advance 30 Kilometers or more per day. Today we reached our target already and I am able to write in daylight. I also got the 1* 2 pound parcel, Sausage, Ham and Butter, and sugar too. There are 3 of us and we just do our own cooking. Please do not send so much bacon but Sausage and Cookies and Cake. Yesterday a few Comrades had apples in a box send but they were all frozen, they don’t thaw out here in this cold . I rather go for dried apples. Maybe apple sauce in a can well wrapped in newspaper. It is very cold here and no place to get completely warm, Anyone that gets sick now with high fever will day in this cold.. Can you send me some Schnapps, or Rum? I can dilute that with a bit of hot coffee maybe you can send that in small medicine bottles , I can tell you, life is bad here, if we only had it so good like you at home got the animals. . The Animals lay on straw and we lay on the hard packed floor. I am well and keep writing what is going on at home. You can send me another set of under pants, bracelets, Pocket Knife and Comb and a mirror. Already I am wishing you a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year and keep on praying for me that there will be an end to the war soon. Lets hope that the war will end next year , with many Greetings Heinrich.

Send me atin for the Butter, and some salt in that box that is in Grandmas old room.
