Russia Jn 23rd 1942

Dear Parents and Grand Dad !

Yesterday I got a letter from you so I will write again today. I was ammunition carrier today and in this cold, I shall remember this winter as long as I live. The thermometer showed 42 C below and a terrible storm and with all the clothing on, one can not get warm. We are actually furthest south here but in this country that does not mean anything whereas your climate at home is sea Climate and warmer. The Russians mostly wear sheep coats . You said you done the trashing of the wheat, what is the final tally? . Dear Parents, as of today I am starting again getting hungry all my things from home are gone, | ate it all. 2 parcels never got here, and the rest was ok, including the beet syrup. So you can send the smaller parcels now, do not send cookies for now. Dear Father, thank you for the new lamp that you put into my room at home please now make sure that you get the electric cooker soon . I will send 100 Marks next month again and did you get the 90 Marks? Will you get the spreader in spring ? I just look forward to the day that I can see you all again We already have lost many a Comrade here and the war has brought no good to anyone. No sign of furlough either.

So now that is all

Heinrich.
