Dear Parents and Granddad !

It is noon now and I have time to write to you this letter. I am well, but the cold here is persistent and will not end. The wind blows so hard and icy, it takes ones breath away. I suppose back home in this cold no mouse will leave its shelter and here we are constantly on the road , getting this or that. One can not get warm all day or night, then there is a shortage of food , potatoes we have not seen for several months. The parcels from home that we expect do not get here because of the deep snow. So we live on hopes here and there is no certainty for anyone to see home again in good health. All we can do is pray and nothing else.

Many Greetings Heinrich.
